OUR MANIFESTOOUR MANIFESTO

The record company for people with day jobs

Our five-point manifesto:

1. You bring the music; we’ll bring everything else.
The days when an artist had to rely on a record company to produce its music are long gone and we are here to embrace that. We want to work with artists that have great music that is professionally recorded and produced, that we can package, distribute and sell to an expectant audience. We also take care of all publishing, legal and industry body matters, leaving our artists to do the thing they do best – make great music!

2. A mutually beneficial relationship
Lets not beat around the bush here: a lack of funds means no recording, which means no music, which means no record company. Our primary role is to discover talented new artists that we can help make as much money as possible from their music, enabling us both to carry on doing the things we love: making music and selling it.

3. We can’t make you successful on our own.
Getting signed to a record company is just the beginning. If you didn’t already know this, sorry to be the ones to break this news to you, but don’t think that once you’ve signed on the dotted line you can sit back and take it easy, as Morrissey once sang “You just haven’t earned it yet baby”. We only work with artists who are prepared to put in as much passion and effort as we do. We see this relationship as a partnership, with both partners working as hard as each other for a common goal – to make and sell great music.

4. Social media is not the world.
We are not interested in how many friends you have on facebook or myspace et al. What we care about can be summed up in a few words: do you make good music? If we think you do, then it is our job to get as many people to hear your music as possible, whether they be online, at a concert, in bar, watching TV or up a tree – we don’t care. We can’t promise they will all like you, but we can promise they will hear you.

5. We might not be the right label for you.
Just because we are a record company, it does not mean we will sign everyone who is good just because their music sells. With Day Job Records we are creating a community of like-minded people, we want the fans of our bands to be the fans of all our bands. We are building a network of artists, journalists, bloggers, promoters, photographers, producers and video makers that enjoy what each other do.

If this sounds like the record company for you, how do you get involved?

If you are an artist please email us an mp3 of your music to demos@dayjobrecords.com, we want to hear as much new music as possible! We will never stop listening and we promise you will always receive an answer, even if it takes us a month. We are here to give you all the honest help we can to take your career on to the next level, so even if we can’t help you as a record company, we will always strive to put you in contact with other people or offer you a slot at one of our gigs.

If you aren’t a musical artist, but would still like to get involved please get in touch! We don’t care what you bring to the table as long as it is full of enthusiasm, we really look forward to hearing from everyone who shares our love of art and music and wants to be a part of this like-minded community.
